Quick Question about memory...

I'm thinking about finally RMA'ing my Kingston HyperX memory. I can't OC it even 20mhz without it crashing now(which orignally was my normal OC at 220fsh). It was crashing about every hour but now that it's back to normal clock speeds every once in awhile(once a week or something like that). This past sunday was my birthday and I got $100 and I was wondering about just getting some new memory since eventually I will be putting the Kingston memory into an Intel P4 system I'm buildling now anyways(for media video stuff). I think I can add about another $100 to it, so my question is should I just get a 512mb stick(i can live with 512 until I get money for another) of some good OC ram?

What memory do you know of($150-$180) that will OC the best? Thought about a good 512 of ballistix or something. I really want to get into OC'ing and am hoping to get 2.3-2.4 out of my system.

Also, is there a set of 512(1gb) that I can get for around $150-$180 that will OC well as well? If not, no biggy. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks a lot.

WTF? why are you oc'ing your ram when you have a A64???

even if you are able to bring it up to 250mhz, it is still gonna be max 1-2% faster than stock for one and a half to double the price!

get some good old g.skill cas 2 ram fo $100 from newegg and use dividers so you can easily hit 2.6.

read this: even a 144mhz memory speed gap only nets you maybe 5-7% perfromance increase in real world(non sandra) benchmarks.

About that...I didn't originally have the memory oc'ed. It was at 166 for awhile, but it was just underclocked then(at 220fsb). I didn't see 20mhz as any problem at all so I set it back to 1:1, and it was fine for about 8 months or so now. When I tried OC'ing above 220 i would set the memory back to 166, but I mean it would never go to 200 even if I did that anyways. Is there really a problem with it being at 220mhz?

Also, thanks for that link to the g.skill. That link is exactly what I was looking for. So G.skill should do it huh? Anymore opinions? If so, I'll be ordering it tonight(because good deal for 1gb of good OC ram).

g.skill should hit 218mhz if it's a good stick according to some forum posters but i really dont bother. even if ym memory was running underclocked, my cpu would make up the decrease with a higher clock speed.
