Hi everyone. I have 1Gig of dual channel PC3200 DDR Ram in my computer, and a 3Ghz pentium4 with a 800Mhz fsb. Should I just set my computer to "no page file" or should I use the old standby and set the page file to 1.5 the amount of my ram? Any help is appreciated--thanks.

You will likely get better performance with the paging file enabled. Believe it or not. As for the size, I still do stick with the 1.5 x size of physical RAM metric, with a max of 2GB or so.

I have 1GB and have the swap file set the same, and even that is probably a little high. The 1.5x RAM rule doesn't really apply nowadays because the more RAM you have the less swapping you need to do. You'll just end up wasting hard drive space. It does depend on what you're using the system for. Gaming and video editing and such would obviously require a larger swap file than general task. You can always check your swap usage in the Task Manager to get an idea of what you'll need.

Depends on your OS and the use of your desktop.

For stability purposes, keep the pagefile, preferably on a secondary harddrive away from your boot/OS drive, and actually go for 1X for min and max fixed since you have 1gb of physical ram.

System managed size.
