Quick question about meeting someone at an airport on layover

This may be a dumb question, but my grandfather is flying into Pearson YYZ today in Toronto and has a 4 hour layover before he heads to the other side of the country. If I show up at the airport in the arrivals terminal can he come out, see me for a bit, and then just head back through security again?

Thanks!

Yes as long as he has a boarding pass for his outbound flight.

Remember he'll have to go through security again so leave some extra time.

So the best place to show up will just be in international arrivals (he's coming from germany) I'm guessing where the baggage claim is? That seems to be where family meet inbound members. And then just meet him there.

His connecting flight is to elsewhere in Canadia? He'll have to go through customs, though that's regardless if he meets you or not. But remember if he meets you at international arrivals he'll have to make his way over to domestic departures at some point.

There also used to be some strange flights that where still considered international flights after landing. The plane would come in from Europe, stop in Toronto and offload some passengers, who would have to clear customs and immigration, and the remaining passengers who were carrying on to Vancouver were not allowed to leave the plane, and no passengers were allowed to board the plane in Toronto. The remaining passengers cleared customs in Vancouver.

I doubt if they still operate these type of flights because it always meant they were flying Toronto to Vancouver with half the seats empty.

International changes things. If he has a 4 hr layover and he's got to get through customs? Based on my experiences with customs (not in Canada though) I don't think it will be worth the trouble.

Thanks guys, this worked out perfectly! I managed to see my Grandfather who is 88 on his way back from Germany, I don't think I'll be able to see him again for a very long time, so this was very important despite being only for a few hours in a crowded airport.
