Quick question about Halo 3

I want to buy a 360 to play Halo 3, but I don't have a widescreen TV (I am adamant about playing games with widescreen).

Is there an option to play with a 16:9 ratio while using a 4:3 TV? A guy at work said this is possible, but I don't believe him.

Sweet. This is the deciding factor of whether or not I'll buy a 360 for Halo 3.

Thanks for verifying.

Why? You're just making the visible screen smaller. You'll see "more" to an extent. And if you're doing multiplayer on the same box, it defaults to 4:3. (Why they did that crap I don't know)

Speaking of aspect ratios and Halo 3, I HATE how it puts bars on the left and ride side of the screen in co-op mode (16:9).

I know, it sounds kind of silly, but since I started playing games on my WS monitor, I can't go back to 4:3.

Wouldn't it be a little too wide if they did a true split screen? I think it would get to the point where people are forced to do split screen on XBOX Live for the competitive edge.

I am SSSOOOO glad they did that with Halo 3.

Playing Halo 2 splitscreen, split vertically, gave you absolutely NO peripheral vision to the point it was unplayable.

It started to get to the point that i was so annoyed trying to play halo 2 splitscreen by going into the Xbox dash, changing to 4:3 mode, setting my TV in 4:3 mode, rebooting Halo 2, just to play a splitscreen mode you can actually see with. then when done, i'd have to go back to the dash, change it back to 16:9 mode, change TV back to 16:9 mode, and reboot Halo 2. It got so annoying my friends and I would just take turns playing by ourselves online.

Gears of War split it horizontally and man, it gives you a view that is like 16:4.5, which was almost unplayable too. It was just so awkward because you had no vertical vision at all then tons and tons of horizontal vision.

Personally, I had issues with neither Gear's Top/Bottom split nor Rainbow 6's Left/Right split. I'm not the best at console FPSes, however, so I'm sure highly competitive players have stronger opinions.

I'm glad you get to play as you want, but I do wish they gave us the option to use our full screen real estate in Halo 3.

I'm not terribly good at either, so I'm sure that makes a difference. But personally, I had issues with neither Gear's Top/Bottom split nor Rainbow 6's Left/Right split.

true ... the option would have been the best solution, i just can't complain since it's the option I would have picked heh.

I absolutely agree with you. It annoys me when people get angry about black bars on the sides. Bungie has made a very good decision with this.
