Quick Question about GTA4

I rented GTA4 for the PS3 over the weekend and really enjoyed the the game. My only question is when i'm driving around the graphics get really choppy. Is this normal? The reason I ask is because this is the first game i've played on the PS3 that the graphics have been choppy. I'm just wondering if this is normal, my video output is set at 1080i incase that makes a difference. Thanks.
