i plan on buying a new desktop and i'm going to order everything new except a hard drive. i plan on removing my current hard drive from my current computer and popping it into the new rig.

my question is: if i pop my current hard drive into my new computer, will my computer be good to go without doing any windows installer since i already have windows xp on my current hard drive? i won't have to do any installers or any setting up for my new computer right?

PS: my computer will be built by the computer store so they are building it with everything except for the hard drive. i want to just put my current hard drive into the new desktop and have it good to go.

Windows doesn't like the core of the computer changing within it. Depending on how big the change of hardware is you might want to plan for a complete reinstall, because its quite likely you'll end up there if it doesn't work.

it's a pretty big change. my current desktop is 5 years old. so i guess i might as well order a hard drive with the new computer and just sell my current comp as it is.

Yes, you will probably bluescreen if you just pop in a different hard drive and boot up. Think about it this way: will the drivers really be the same from one machine to the other? You'd have the wrong ones being loaded... and frankly, it'd be a mess to use. A clean reinstall (on a regular basis, IMO) is a good thing to do.
