Quick question about CPU

was taking in and out the CPU's last night, and noticed the black stubs on them are starting to crack, wondering if that will do any harm at all and if so, where can I get replacement stubs? Here is a picutre of an example processor, the black things on the corners is my concern. Thanks in advance!

You can find that sort of stuff at any Lowe's/Home Depot/Radioshack......just cut it down to the proper size and use appropriate adhesive (if even needed).

Shouldn't be a problem. For whatever reason I took them completely off my first computer I built (thought they were only for shipping or something), and everything still worked fine for the year that I had that CPU.

They are meant ot be there so the HS doesn't crush/crack the core. Some of those thermalright heatsinks way liek 2lbs!!
