Quick question about cpu swap between AMD/Intel

Hey everybody,
I just have a quick question on the performance of 2 cpus with similar clocks. I have the option to swap my P4 1.6 @ 2.4 with an AMD XP 1700 which will most likely hit 2.3 or maybe even 2.4 if it performs as well as others with the same week. I think that the AMD would be faster than the Intel in this situation, but I can't find benchmarks comparing OC'd versions of some processors to others.

Please do not respond with Intel/AMD flames! I just want to know which can churn out more cpu cycles.

Here's some quick info about the systems

P4:
Epox 4G4A+
1.6 @ 2.4 Ghz

AMD :
Epox 8RDA+
1700 (~1.44 @ hopefully 2.3/2.4)

RAM for both : Corsair XMS PC3200

I think you are right.

AMD's chips have higher IPC so if both chips are at 2.4 ghz the amd will be much faster for most apps. Hope this helps.... 🙂

"If" you could get the 1700+ to 2.3-2.4Ghz, then it would be faster than the P4 1.6 at 2.4Ghz.
