Was it simply the fact that the sexual activities took place between the two? What were the specifics of the gifts both given to Lewinsky and given to Clinton? What put Clinton under oath that caused his perjury?

It was a stain on the Republican Party in my opinion. Millions of dollars wasted. That entire tell-all document Starr turned out nothing but gossip and allegations.

Close, it was a stain on Monica's Dress and the Republicans were jealous.

Yeah are the republicans so naive as to believe this was the first or would be the last something like this has happened? I have no proof, or link, but it just seems silly to think that the oval office hasn't seen it's share of adultery. I don't think they are this naive, I believe this to have been purely political.

uhhh, a stain on the Republican Party? Give me a break, more like a stain on Clinton. He is the one that screwed up by doing it in the first place then lying about it in front of a grand jury! And you somehow blame Republicans for what Clinton did.

After many previously failed investigations, the Republicans became desperate to find anything. The Lewinsky scandal and Clinton's denial of it(specifically) was all they got after years and $millions. A Republican shame to be sure.

doubt many outside of the US take that scandal seriosly, it was clearly a matter that had absolutely nothing to do with the republican party to begin with

The final cost is reported to be $70 million (See here) . It started off as a whitewater investigation and when they found nothing they decided to go after Clinton to determine if any 'pillow talk' could have included information related to the Whitewater investigation.

As someone said it would be naive to assume that this was the first time adultery had occurred in the white house. I guess Clintons continuing popularity infuriated the republican who were determined to disgrace him at any cost. IMHO that was a matter between Clinton & his wife and should have been left at that.
