Quick question about Athlon Thunderbird CPU and the rubber bumpers on the CPU when you...

Ok,,,what I did was when I got my cpu was take the round rubber bumbers off. Then I put on hs/f combo. But my question , are you supposed to keep them on?. If so there would have been no-way to put on my hs. It took a tremendous amount of pressure just to get it to snap on CPU housing on the board.
Just a question I have TYIA.

you should not have done that. the reason for the "rubber bumpers" is to keep the heatsink level, without tilting to the side. without the rubber pads there is a greater risk of cracking the core. if everything is ok at the moment i guess i wouldn't worry too much but be VERY careful in the future if you have to remove/reapply the heatsink. as far as the pressure required to install the heatsink, it shouldn't be a result of the rubber pads, but rather the tension of the clip, which varies between differens heatsink models.

OOPS!!!!!!!!
Lucky I am a pack rat and stuck those bumpers to the side of my desk. Now I know why I don't throw ANYTHING away😀😱

I'll put those back on in a bit when I do a spring cleaning to it . Thx for your reply
