Quick question about a RAM upgrade

idea

I ordered a 3.2ghz Dimension8400 from Dell with only 512mb RAM (256x2). I quickly realized I'm going to need more, maybe another gig, but I don't know what type to order. I think it should be PC3200 but that's not what came with my system. I ran CPU-Z and got the following information about my current system:

3.2GHz
FSB 200MHz
Bus 800MHz
512MB DDR-2 SDRAM 266MHz (PC2100)

Aren't I being shortchanged with the PC2100? Can't it accept PC3200?

this is the kind you need
bear in mind though that you need to have a pair to run dual channel, however i'm not sure if you have another 2 slots free
also benefits of more than 1gig ram are few and far between atm. (eg. few programs benefit from more than 1 gig)

finally, maybe you have an old version of cpuz? not quite sure why its reporting wrong.... maybe the ram divider is set wrong in the bios?

Why do you think cpu-z is wrong? I downloaded the newest version off it's homepage earlier today.

I'm planning on buying 2x512mb. I would get 2x1GB if I could afford it 🙂 I do a lot of graphic editing and when I loaded a 350MB PDF file yesterday my free memory went down to 20MB. I noticed the system gets a bit lagged for some files.

I think CPU-Z isn't reading the info correctly...there is no PC2100 DDR-2, sounds like you have DDR-2 533mhz PC4200..
