quick question about a psu

I have the following system:

3.0 P4 HT 478
P4P800 Deluxe
2 GB RAM Crucial
Raptor 74GB HD
2 DVD Burners

I plan on adding a BFG 6800GS OC and my current PSU that came with my case (Antec SLK2650BQE) is only 350W with i think 15A on +12V.

I know the new card requires 18A on 12V so i was looking at the Forton Sparkle? 400W which specs show 18A on 12V.

My question is to do u guys think this will a good PSU, i mean enough for my system? BFG does say 18A or more for the card and the Forton is Max 18A so im guessing im right at the minimum and can't overclock or anything?

Thanks
Keifer

for a modern system i prefer at least 30amp on the 12v rail

also the video card isnt the only thing running on the 12v rail... (ie. cpu, etc also use it)

Where is Bobthelost when you need him. I would go with a little more more than 400 watts. Bob has a good reccomendation for you. Just give him some time and he will be here. He never misses a PSU thread. If he doesnt show up just give me a pm and Ill give you a good reccomendation for $49.99.

There is a $50 Fortron 450W with a huge combined +12V rail of 36A, and has PCI-e power connectors. That will be my pick for budget PSU.

lol we have a winner. You even beat bob to it. Check out new egg for the 450 Fortron. It might be the best value and should be plenty for your system.

alright thanks for the replies!

but i guess to better explain my question, i was talking about 18A on one of the 12V legs because i was concerned if the 18A leg feeding the 6800GS would be sufficient current for the card (minimum 18A or higher).

Should i be concerned or will it work smoothly?

Thanks
Keifer

I have the same case with that same power supply and mine sais 21A on +12V, u need to check what your power supply sais cause if u have the same case it should be the same as mine ...you might not even need a new power supply
