Quick question about 8kha+ and HEATSINKS

Not sure, but my Taisol CGK760092 with YS-TECH 60mm fits ok I know it does not answer your question but it will bump your post Viperoni .
Btw pm Mikewarrior2 he should know since we both have the Epox board.I know that`s the Alpha model with the fan on the side of heatsink right?
🙂

Tailsol's PDF sheet
Alpha pep66 info

Looks like it's 40mm from the center of the CPU socket....the alpha's sink is 32.5mm...but when you figure the fan is another 25-30m... :Q

The only way I can see the sink+fan fitting is if I maybe orient the blowing upwards straight into my enermax PS....or it *might* just have enough clearance to clear the chipset fan.

I think I might have to go with the MSI kt266a board :-\

Mike where are ya bud? 🙂

There is a mod for the PEP66T that requires you to change the orientation of the shroud so that the fan is now top mounted. I remember there were 2 new cuts added in the shroud to accommodate the socket clip. Can?t remember the link though? sorry but it is possible 🙂

I've done the mod to mine already, but it really disrupts the airflow through the sink and I'd rather not do it.

Unless it'll clear the fan on the northbridge, I'll have to go with the MSI board 🙁

I wouldn't recommend the 8KHA+ anyway due to the boot-up problems I've experienced with it. Even with good Crucial RAM and a 300W Antec power supply, I still sometimes have to press the reset button to get it to boot. I'm not even overclocking it and we're talking a cold boot here not a soft re-boot. I tried the latest 11/2 BIOS and even a beta BIOS's but seems to be a problem with my +5volt being heavily loaded down by the EPoX design. Mine is at 4.85 volts.

<< I just built a 8KHA+ with a swiftec with no problem >>

What's a swiftec have to do with needing a heavily regulated +5 volt rail? Try telling us something useful... like what PS are you using and what's the +5V like?

Well a swiftech is a heatsink MC 462 3'X3'X3.2, You know that thing that sets on top of your processor, The post was 8KHA+ and HEATSINKS, If you want to know what power supply I use it is a Enermax 431 and my 5 volt rail is 4.8 to 4.9 I have never seen it go below 4.7, Now is that ok with you

That last post sounded like I was being a smartass and that isn't me so I am sorry about it, But as I said I think the two best heatsinks I have used on the 8KHA+ is the Swiftech and the SK-6, They are both good but I really like the Swiftec, Cost a lot but does a great job, I have never tried the Alpha as power supplys go I have used just about everyone on the market and the only one I have seen that will stay over 5 volts and over 3,3 volts under load is the PC Power and Cooling but it come with some noise, The Enermax is kinda cheap on it's IDE connections and I have had shorts with them other than that it is a pretty good not great power supply

I would just go with the Alpha 8045 which you can pick up with a 48.5 cfm fan for around $40 shipped. GREAT cooling and fits just fine on my 8KHA+

Hey DoubleL, I took my frustrations with this board out on you. If I'm not happy then I should RMA this sucker or try a new power supply. I was looking for some direction in the wrong topic. Sorry bout that 😱
