Im putting my new A64 system together and I'm wondering if I should use the stuff that came with the heatsink or if I should wipe it off and use artic silver. Or if its not a big deal.

Should I use the stuff or try to find my Artic Silver 3?

If you're overclocking, find it, if not and even if you are its not absolutely necessary, the stuff that comes with it works, just not as well.

LOL a couple of degrees at most. If it has the thin looking pad why not try it out first. Then if not good enough use your as3. I have a hunch the temperature difference will be small. Depending how good you are at putting on the as3 might be nil.

Remeber, removing the heatsink/thermal pad voids your warranty much of the time. If you want to OC, however, the SLK-948u is a nice heatsink at a nice price.

Leave the pad on, AMD uses Shin Etsu thermal pads on the Athlon 64s. Shin Etsu is right up there with Arctic Silver, and as mentioned before your warranty is voided if you take that pad off.

Funny thing I found out AMD recommends paste for their A64s with the heatsprader and pad for their AXPs with the heatsink right on the core. . Was from one of the thermal guides at their site.
