Right now I recently purchased

MSI X470 Gaming Plus motherboard

I'm contemplating switching it out to a

MSI B450 Pro Carbon AC.

PRO Carbon AC has better features ( wireless, bluetooth etc.. )

Any reason to just stick with X470 vs getting the B450?

What about getting a Wireless card and Bluetooth adapter, this would save you tons of time and effort.

X470 is actually cheaper by like 10 bucks vs the Pro Carbon AC. but it's missing USB C in the back. And I dont necesarily need to have it, it's just nice having those features built into the board.

So basically it comes down to full featured B450 highly rated board vs X470 which is also rated well for it's price bracket but lacking some features.

thats a hard choice. the lan and audio are better on the b450 and i usually lean toward better audio and intel lan. didnt even factor in the ac wifi. why not a 3rd option x470 taichi or something heh

Taichi is like $170
Gaming plus $110
Pro Carbon is $110
i paid 230 for my taiachi ultimate, I never even overclock, just rather have beefed up board since i will run it for 6 years most likely (will be gifted away at age 2).. but 60 bux is the only thing standing between you and the motherboard you want? ;) just one time eating out is 60

AFAIK B450 Pro Carbon AC is pretty beefy I think rated one of the best b450 boards. Not sure i'll need all the features from the Taichi, but I did at one point consider it.

I'll give it a go and see how it goes with the B450 before deciding if i need to go up to a beefier x470 board. I'm only running a 1600 so I'm not going balls to the wall just a minor refresh from a 2600k ;)

IIRC the B450 Carbon has the same VRM as the X470 Gaming Plus, but with bigger heatsinks. It's a good board and will do well even with a 2700X.

ok i'm on the b450 pro crabon now with the 1600 and 16gb of samsung oem b-die

this is what i got so far. I'm doing updates and such now. but I need to stress test this machine to make sure it's stable.
I tried lower timing (CL14) but the system wouldn't boot. This was also done with OC preset from MSI that I just needed to click a button so that was convenient.

yea temporary until ryzen 3.
Was gonna go with the 2600 initially but it wasn't worth double what the 1600 was going for although it came with divison 2

16gb OEM B-DIE sammy was like 67 bucks shipped figured give it a go and see if it clocks well.

That's how I feel too. The value of the R5 1600 was incredible when it was released (remember, entry-level Skylake / Kaby Lake Intel quad-core Core CPUs were more expensive, and the R5 1600 is 6C/12T), even for $220, and now that you can get it for $80... hard to beat that crazy value.

The 2600 is better, and faster for games, so maybe if you're a heavy gamer, pick the 2600(X), but for most people going for bang-for-buck, the R5 1600 really delivers. I bought another one for $120 recently. Not sure if I'm going to build the rig for myself, or build one for a friend, or just re-sell it in a rig.

oh sounds great.. I like how you put B-DIE in caps ;) where did you pick up the ram? any reason why you didnt rock the 2600k until the ryzen 3 comes? im sure the single threaded apps run faster for the most part on a 2600k
if planning on ryzen 3 seems like should buy a mobo for the ryzen 3 chip and not the 1600?

Picked up the oem ones on ebay. Its literally HP pulls that someone put up for sale and it still had the HP stickers on it. I could've rocked the 2600k longer until Ryzen 3, but the price drop of the chip of the 1600 tipped it over for me, not to mention the B450 Pro Carbon was in stock at the same time and the $30 promo applied when you purchase a chip and mobo combo O_O.
When I was pricing out the 2600 or the 1700 + pro carbon, the promo didn't apply and/ the mobo was always out of stock.

AFAIK the Pro carbon shouldn't have any issues running the latest chip from what i'm reading so if all else I'll pick up the newer chip and drop it in since it'll be supported.

Thanks for telling me how you found them. now lets see if you can get some good speed on the sticks, you updated your bios and set the xmp profiles?

No i havent had to update my bios. and since these are OEM sticks it didn't actually any any xmp profiles on it.
I'll eventually update it but the only thing the bios update mentions is more processory compatibility, so not sure how that'll help me.

The motherboard does offer the memory try it feature and it's literally you choose the memory speed and the latency and this is what i'm running it at so far. Tried CL 14 but computer kept on restarting.
Search for the part number in ebay and you'll find a bunch. M378A1K43BB1

Also i haven't tried higher than 3200 yet, so i'll give that a go when i get a bit more time ;)

no you search by the samsung number which i posted above.

M378A1K43BB1

If you google that part / model number you'll pull up the all the tech info from samsung in their docs it shows b-die.
reddit also is a good source ;)

Try it is there. I just didn't realize you can choose between the different chipset makers. So i'll double check I chose samsung ;)

well i just spent 10 mins and read about your ram :) here is what i got from it "just because it is B-die doesn't mean it does good clocks or timings. You can quite easily have 2400Mhz max B-die at like CL14 "

So OOPS i guess i am not exactly searching for Bdie but rather cl14 3200 rated sticks. If its worth the extra $$ is the question. I guess all the bios settings in the world wont help unless you go to 1.4v perhaps. Guess B die isnt as great as it sounds. The search continues.

Yea it's unbinned B-die so it'll be a hit or miss. Im only right now with my current timing at 3200 speed. will try higher at higher latency and see where it goes from there.
