Quick PSU capacity question

My friend is doing an upgrade on his core system. So far he has the 9600GSO and 4GB (2x2gb) DDR2 coming in the mail and is looking for a mobo/cpu. He will probably get a mid-level Intel dual core, something along the lines of a E7200 or the like, and do a moderate overclock. He also runs a raid array of 2 320GB hard drives.

Will an older Seasonic S12 430w with 12v1 @ 14a and 12v2 @ 15a be able to handle this? He most likely will not oc the gpu, at least not by much, and the cpu would probably be like a fsb change to hit 3.33 or something around there.

Probably be fine. My wife's system had a Seasonic S12-380 with a slightly overclocked Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, Raptor HDD and Radeon x1950 Pro. Worked fine, 'cept for the video card howling about not enough power when system was powered on until the HDD finished spinning up. 😛

lol, sounds like you were on the edge there. He is now also looking at an AMD quad setup so I'm curious if it will work for that as well. I supposed worst case the gpu cry's and we just get a new psu...

I was going to stick with my EA380 for my #1 system but once I decided to get a 4850 intstead of a 4670 I knew I had to get something more beefy. I went with a PC Power and Cooling Silencer 500W. $65 shipped from the egg. Cheaper than the EA500, so I figured it was a good deal.
 
Hmmm... well, I think he is going to stick with the 65w e7200 and he all-ready has the 9600GSO so that should be less power than the 4850, at least I believe so. I think he will be ok but we shall see this weekend.
