My girlfriends computer was off and we were watching TV - suddenly *POP* i finally traced the problem to her power supply that apparently died. I replaced her 250 with a cheapo 250 i had sitting around in another case. Now - her CD-ROMS are acting up, she can't burn on the fly - sometimes they have trouble reading. Could this be because there is not enough power to go around anymore - i mean they were both 250w's but i know there are varying levels of quality.

Do you suggest i buy a 300W (its only a PIII 800eb machine) or do you think the computer could have been more damaged? - and do you know of any deals for a decent quality power supply that is on the cheap side (doesnt have to be name brand - just something that you would trust in a nagging girlfriend's puter)

thanks!

1st test with your psu to determine if it is a low wattage/volt situation..then go from the ascertainment ..

I had a power supply short out and when it did, it took out three hard drives and a zip drive.

It may also be that when the computer crashed, it corrupted some files also.

Trying another power supply can't hurt, but don't scimp just because it's for the girlfriend:)
