I just signed up for VoiceStick VOIP service and it was a pretty swell deal. $35 for the ethernet -> phoneline (POT) bridge and free every month. That's right, free (you only pay for outgoing calls). I'm going to rate my monthly usage and then see if the unlimited plans are worth my while.

Seems like a hell of a deal, I'm guessing I'll be saving $10 a month over vonage based on my limited outgoing call usage (I'll use my cellphone after 7 PM, when it's free).

You can figure out the URL, don't want to be accussed of spamming.

update
I received my adapter on monday, a few days earlier than expected. Everything was easy to hook up and the device was autoconfigured. No settings to worry about. Since I'm on the free plan ($0 a month plan) I had to add prepaid credit. Luckily they gave me a coupon for trying out the service. Added my $5 coupon and was making phonecalls asap. The weird thing is that there's sometimes no dial tone, but calls go through fine. People hear me fine and vice versa. No complaints, especially since this will probably turn out to be much cheaper than vonage. I'm going to chart my usage and may go to their $14 unlimited plan - still about 1/2 the cost of vonages.

so you get a free incoming phone number?
hmmm...

do they have a web interface to configure stuff, like call forwarding? will it let me forward all incoming calls (that are free) to a cell phone?
does it include free voice mail? so i could get a free incoming phone number and free voice mail?

I don't have the bridge yet but they gave me a number right away. I set up my voicemail and it notifies me + sends me a .wav of my messages. Coool. And, yep, voicemail is free but using your voicestick line to check messages might cost something, I don't know - I use gmail for that. And, yes, incoming calls are free.

edit: as for the web interface, haven't played with it much but it does let you set basic options, including forwarding and this thing called i2bridge- you can assign one number (your cellphone) as an extension to your V.S. account - call from that phone and you can use your voicestick account to make outgoing calls. That's very useful if you have sprint or another cell provider that offers free "circle" calling. Set your VoiceStick number as an in call and speed dial your access number. If you have unlimited calling on voicestick you and make unlimited calls, all day, on your cellphone.
