Quick Photoshop Gurus!!!!

This is what I want to do:

a random colorful background picture with a misty (or grey) square on top of it. On top of the grey square, I want a text that is clear, meaning the text itself reveals the colorful background behind(within) the square...

how do i do this?!?
 
You could use a clipping mask...

your layer set up would look like this... from top to bottom:

---Colorful image---
---Text Layer---
---Gray Box---
---Copy of Colorful Image---

Then just hold ALT and click the line between the Colorful Image and the Text Layer

EDIT: I'm assuming this is what you're shooting for
