quick PCi video card question

Given the power supply restrictions of PCI slots in general, there isn't much to choose from. There is a decent Radeon 9100 PCI card, and a lot of slow GF5200 and Radeon 9200(SE) stuff.

Yes i know, i just need the best of whats out there for a friends computer, i never have owned a pci video card, went straight from onboard video to a Voodoo 3500 and now ati's, is there any one that stands out just a bit more than the rest? any help appreciated as i have no clue. thanks

You can also find a few places that have a GeForceFX 5600NU PCI for sale, but they're pretty rare. Easiest to find would be a R9000/9200, or a GF4MX. Those will play DX8.1 games, although the GF4 can't do pixel shaders (and the R9000 does them, but does them so slowly as to be mostly useless). The 9100 (a PCI version of the 8500LE) would likely be the best.

I agree, since at places like Tigerdirect you can get the 128mb 9100 PCI for ~$60 total, after shipping and mail-in-rebate. The only places that I know of that sell the FX 5600 PCI are Amamax.com and OCIE.com, both of which carry it for ~$150, which is WAAAY too much for a PCI video card.
