Quick Overclock for i7 920 D0

Looking to do a quick and dirty OC (preferably without pushing voltage). I'm not new to tinkering in BIOS and overclocking, but still need some guidance, last machine I overclocked was an AMD box a few years back.

I'm not looking for anything fancy just a stable 24/7 OC. The model of my CPU is supposed to be good for overclocking with lots of headroom so I think a 20-30% OC should be safe. Stability is key as I never turn this machine off and do most of my work on it.

The motherboard and specs are in the signature. Using a huge Noctua air cooler so temps shouldn't be a problem. Case also has great airflow, so not worried on that front.

Also is it reasonable to OC w/ Turbo on? Or is it always better to turn it off and push the CPU a bit higher. Also ideally I want to avoid playing with vcore much.

Some instructions (or a link to a guide w similar mobo) would be appreciated.

thanks in advance!

Quickest way to get more power out of your machine? Just go buy an X5650 off eBay for like $50-60, drop in and enjoy 6-core goodness. Your motherboard is begging for this upgrade!

🙂

I generally don't overclock work boxes that have to stable. I'd agree here with Denithor and upgrade what your stock configuration is. I'd get the X5670 though for the higher base clock and multiplier, it's not all that much more expensive
