Quick Notebook GPU Question

I've been looking around online trying to find a decent laptop for me. I've come to the concusion that I want an A64 system but when it comes down to GPU, there only seems to be the mobility 9700s...Are these the best/only GPUs for the A64s or am I just looking in the wrong places? If someone has any insight or if there's a better GPU for the A64's i'd greatly appreciate some knowledge.

Please no P-M/A64s battles...just wanna know about the GPUs...

Thx

The best GPU u can get w/an A64 right now is a 9700 (technically a 9800 also but those are impossible to find); this is 'cuz current A64 systems do not support PCI-E.
Newer A64 systems and most Turion's will support PCI-E; specifically the Acer Ferrari 4000 and I think the Acer Aspire 5020. You'll need to wait a bit for those to become more mainstream.

i think the reason you can't find high end GPU's with A64's is because all these ODM's have deals with intel where they can't pair AMD chips with high video cards in order to make intel's chips seem faster. This way, the ODM's and OEMs and peeps can get better deals on intel chips, creating more profit on their intel products, which, lets face it, they sell more of.

even if i could effort it...no way, battery life only about 2hrs, and considering there will be a couple of A64 with X700 or 6600go coming up within quarter 3 selling for under 1300$ i dont see what makes the difference, the acer gonna cost about 2000-2300? Should have an 6800go already.

Actually what I meant to say is that the 9800 is technically the most powerful you can get in an AGP A64 system, but those are rare. I didn't mean to say the 9700 was the same as the 9800

Actually the Ferrari 4000 should hit 3 hours+ depending on the battery capacity. ANd yes, it has quite a price premium. If you want a value gaming Turion notebook, wait for the Acer Aspire 5020 series (IIRC X700) and MSI is also coming out with some X700 based Turion's. Asus I'm sure will have some good offerings too

there was a japanese guy on notebookforums who has bought the ferrari4000 and said battery status was 27% after 1hrs and 40 minutes of watching DVD.

That sounds accurate for a DVD. Its probably an 8-cell battery, which should give 3 hours of normal usage (wifi, e-mail, etc). But as always, only time will tell 😉
