my question is.. if a virus is found and then quarentined.... can you del. that file?? or is it some critical file that cant be deleted??

i'm not sure how virus's work but does it find a file closely related and renames it to some windows file? or is the virus completely unrelated to the windows file that is tries to mimic?

ya that confused me ...

If it's quarantined it's infected and you don't want it back, period. It may be a legit file that's infected or a completely unlegit file. It depends on the virus..just check the writeup for that particular strain.

If you want to get rid of it altogether (my recommendation) then do it from within norton. I'm not sure about the home version but in the Corporate you just double click your gold shield, expand "view" on the left and select "quarantine". Highlight the files and hit the red X.

The tiny exception to the above: If it's a word document with something important in it in addition to a virus macro that you absolutely must keep, try downloading the latest defs and rescanning your quarantine. If it doesn't fix it you're left with restoring the file from quarantine and opening it CAREFULLY - disable macros, make sure your normal.dot is backed up etc. See the writup on your particular virus first.
