is the heatsink on the board suppose to be loose? i notice it was loose when putting my hdd in and it accidently bumped against the heatsink and a side of it came up a little.

for the heatsink/fan that came with the a64 3000+, where do i plug the fan in? is it the CPU fan or the chip fan? i got kind of confused because i thought the cpu was the chip.

while installing the heat sink i had to take it off because it wouldnt clamp on the side. u can see the white thermal pad on cpu, i read if u reinstall a heatsink with a pad u need to apply grease. do i need to apply grease or is it ok because i havent actually used it yet?

thanks

Do you mean your chipset hs? I don't think any heatsinks should be loose, some don't use much pressure though.

Plug it in cpu, the chipset header is for a fan on the chipset(if so equipped).

I don't know about the pad thing, you could always scrape the pad off, and put as5 on to be safe, I'm sure other know if the pad can be reused though.

The thermal pad will probably work fine. To verify, check the CPU temp in BIOS to ensure it is reasonable - the Winnie 3000+ typically runs 26C to 33C. If you see temps much higher then you may need to replace the thermal pad.

You might run SpeedFan and put the CPU temp in the tray so you can monitor it. Optionally, SpeedFan can control the CPU fan speed so when the temps are low the fan slows down and becomes inaudible - it takes a little setup to get SpeedFan to do this, search VNF4 threads in this forum for info.
