I suppose you need a res of 1920x1080 for displaying 1080p properly. Would I be better off using only the 720p clips since my 17" vp730b has a max res of 1280x1024? Wont 1080p be redundant? Does 1080p/i scale down to 720p on such displays?

I was checking out some of the WMVHD showcase content and some have the option of 720p and 1080p. I am not sure what I should download.

Will my system (sig) be able to handle these clips anyway. I am on a rather slow net connection and dont want to spend 2 hrs downloading these 2 min clips with huge file sizes, if they wont even play properly.

Thanks for any advice.

if your max is 1280x1024, then the 1080p and 720p clips would look the same. get the 720p ones for the smaller file size :)

Thanks SonicIce, I will get the 720p then.

I have the VLC player , WM10 + purevideo (trial ver), and Powerdvd installed. Default decoder is purevideo. Which of these would be the best for playing HD clips? The 7800gt is supposed to have hardware decoding for these clip right? Is it enabled by default or should I do it manually?

Hm, I'm not sure if you have to configure anything. I think the 7-series will accelerate it, bump for you anyway.
