this is on an old computer with Windows ME. Its a 233 with a 3dfx Banshee video card. I cant get it to run q3 though.

I used to use the banshee in my main system before i got a gf2mx, so whats the problem?
here what quake3 spits out:

Silly question. Are you running the latest drivers? Have you tried GLSetup?

Use minigl this is the problem when you use old drivers that dont have the full opengl icd. You just need to install the minigl driver and it will be fine.

holy crap these forums are competitive! i posted this like an hour ago and its on 2nd page!

anyways, ive tried glsetup.
I think it has to do with Windows ME and that damn file protection, keeping files instead of getting updated ones from the drivers?

Whoa!

I can't play Q3 on my AMD k6-2 450 with a Banshee either!
I get exactly (or almost exactly, can't remember) the same error message!

So, what do you guys suggest? Any websites I need to go to?

You see, my Q3 is not (ahem!) an official issue, so I thought that might be it, but it seems not.

Any step-by-step procedures?

Thanks much!

Like everyone says, you need to download the program called 'glsetup'. It'll check your system and download and install the correct gl driver. You can find it here.

Good luck.

Here is a suggestion : check your desktop bit depth. If quake3 is set to 32bit and desktop is 16 bit, it gives exactly the same error message on my comp.

You say your using a GF2Mx? is that a Twin head? are you using two screens, because Quake 3 won't run with two screens enabled, you have to disable one before you play...

Delete any and all glide files from your system and try that. Worked for me.

Try renaming the 3dfxOGL.dll to 3dfxvgl.dll and place place it in your Q3A folder. If that doesn't work usually the minigl divers from http://www.wicked3d.com will, these are a bandied till the real problem is solved. It is more then likely a driver problem.

Glide is a proprietary API by 3dfx. OpenGL is an open-source API by SGI. You don't need Glide to play in OpenGL.

Indeed, Fatdog, you were right.

I used the link you gave me and it worked. Too bad that it set my maximum screen resolution to 800X600.

I'll check the thing from wicked3D as well.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, y'all!
