I need to know if there's free video capture/editing software. VirtualDub looks decent?

Why? I can save $80 and get a cheap video card with VIVO but no included capture software. Cheap is the only way I can justify the purchase of a video card or I'm stuck with GMA900 IGP.

Video card is Leadtek 6200 TurboCache PCI-e VIVO 16/128

Thanks!

It's included in XP Pro? Wow... one of those things I never even thought to check!
Is it any good? Does capturing with VIVO devices?

It's okay. Good for a first or second-time user, not much use for professionals. However, it's quick, easy and free so definitely worth a try.

Don't know about the VIVO bit I'm afraid, but if the device has a WDM capture driver, then you should be good to go.

If you choose to go this route, make sure to go to the windows update site and download Windows Movie Maker 2.0, if you haven't already.

Here's another fly in the ointment.... MS Movie Maker specifically requests non-Unified Memory Access video. Yep... that rules out the TurboCache models.

Guess I'll just get the Sapphire X600XT VIVO.... but it's $60 more. :(
But much faster and includes decent software, including video stuff. :)

Look over at the "tools" section at www.videohelp.com - you may find a free tool there that will do what you need. If nothing else, this site has a lot of user feedback telling which software actually works and which ones really suck.
