I'm a first-time builder who has just started on my machine.
I'm using a EPOX 9NPA+Ultra MoBo, and the instructions were a little confusing regarding the memroy slots.
I plan to use 2x512MB ram in dual channels
I know that if I don't put the ram in the right slots, I won't be utilizing dual channel. Problem is, I'm not sure which are which. The slots are labeled on the MoBO DDR1 through 4 (1 being closest to the CPU). The first pair are purpple, and the second pair are black.
I was under the assumption that I install ram in the slot closest to the CPU, then skip a slot and put the second ram in the third slot. Is this the case?
I know this is really newbie stuff, but I want to maximize my RAM, and I don't want to take any chances.

BTW: The stock heatsink that cam with my AMD64 3000+ (I know, I know. I should be using a better one) was sort of a pain to put on.

The 9NPA+ ULTRA comes standard with 4 DDR DIMM slots, arranged in a 2-by-2 configuration. Unlike most designs, DIMM modules must be placed in adjacent similar color slots in order to activate Dual Channel mode. The blue colored DIMM status LED is located to the bottom left center of the lower DIMM slot. The status LED activates when power is actively supplied to all seated DIMM modules.
