I have a cold and got some Tylenol Cold. It helps with the throat and stuffiness a bit but not with the runny nose and watery eyes. I have some Claritin sitting around. Will that help for those symptoms even though they're not caused by allergies right now? Are histamines still the cause of those even when it's a cold and not allergies?

And, any problems with having both of these in my system at once?

Only if it's Claritin D

If it's a cold you have, it's not allergies causing your runny nose.

I agree. Nyquil (not that daytime stuff either; you want the stuff that knocks you out in about 3.4 minutes) and a long Autumn sleep will relieve your troubles.

I figured, but I wasn't sure if maybe histamines were the cause in either case.

Any why when my throat is sore and I lay down do I produce a sh!tload of spit every few seconds? It's really annoying.

I'm afraid to take it when I have exams in the morning, might be tough to wake up.

Are you sure about that? I figured you sleep great, and then wake up feeling like sh!t, because you're groggy and all your symptoms came back. You'll still have the cold in the morning!

I think I slept maybe an hour collectively last night, and I have an exam at 2:30. :(

the groggy-ness and feeling like ****** when you wake up is usually because you don't get a good night's sleep. when you're sick, you continually wake up off and on at night to clear an itch throat, cough, sneeze, sniffle, etc. it's quick and you fall back asleep, so you might not notice consciously that it's happening, but it happens so often through out the night that you don't get a good stretch of sleep. though you were in bed for maybe 8 hours, your actual sleep time may have been considerably less.

With the nyquil, you knock out and stay knocked out. and doing it on a weekend (or a day when you don't have to actually get up), you can stay in bed if you need a bit more time to ramp up to getting started with your day. it may not be instantly cured, but your recovery time should be much shorter.

also, drink lots of water throughout the day, of course.

Water? I have lots of that. I figured I needed, like, juice, though.

either will do. as long as you stay hydrated. but not on beer, you can get back to that after you've recovered.

Yes, that might make for a boring weekend.

How are you supposed to stop a runny nose when you have a cold? All of thse cold medicines have a nasal decongestant, something for your aches/pains/sore throat, and something to suppress your cough. Nothing to target watery eyes and a runny nose/sneezing.
