Quick medical question

I just swallowed a penny. Any health concerns I should be worried about? Before anyone asks I swallowed it on accident.

LMAO - you swallowed it by accident? Well, that makes it all OK - as long as you didn't do it on purpose 😛

What was a penny doing in a position that you could swallow it accidently? My 5 year old knows better!

Not really. A penny is small enough that it should pass through without any trouble. It's not got any significantly toxic materials in, nor sharp edges.

Signs of trouble include significant stomach pain/cramps, bleeding, vomiting, severe constipation. Get any of these in the next couple of days, it's worth getting checked out properly.

Otherwise...drink lots of coffee and eat stuff like salad or whatever cleans out your tummy.

Have fun in the can!

For most people a penny should go through fine, but it may take as much as a couple of months. As long as there is no pain you can wait. If you don't see it come out you can ask your doctor to get an xray to see where it is. If any vomiting or abdomenal pain seek attention imediately.

I remember a girl swallowed a quarter while playing quarters. Terribly funny... She ended up going to the doctor to make sure that everything was fine, and it was fine. She passed it without even noticing.

Alright thanks guys. I didn't actually put the penny up to my mouth. My friend threw it at me and I happened to have my mouth open and it went right down! Pretty damn funny at the time, but I was just making sure everything would be alright.

As long as you did not asperate it and in fact swallowed it, it should have smooth sailing on the way out. Enjoy the ride.

You definitely need to make sure you pass it.

And when you do, save it, and leave it in one of those "Need a penny, take a penny; have a penny, leave a penny" things. Recirculated monetary fecal matter FTW.
