I used red hat's auto update and it updated me to linux kernel 2.4.18-19.8.0, and on the kernel.org website it shows that the latest version is 2.4.20...should i update it? would the ntfs stuff from here still work?

I have never used RedHat's auto update thing, but why not try downloading the source for the kernel and configuring and compiling it yourself? It's a good thing to try so that you can learn to customize the system. The "vanilla" sources that are on kernel.org will work fine in RedHat, it doesnt need a special kernel or anything.

RedHat's kernel is modified from the kernel.org version. Dont worry about it too much.
