Currently, I can get the Kodak DX7630 for $197 (or $219 with dock).
The Canon S410 is on sale elsewhere (with leather case) for $229.

I'm a little bit pressed for time b/c I'm traveling to Australia soon and need a camera. I'd like compactness, which gives the S410 more points. The Kodak has more image quality, however, and looks to be the better overall deal. I'm not an expert with picture-taking, so customizability isn't a priority over ease of use and quick focusing (which seems to favor the Kodak), but I'm willin gto get into photography a bit more. (I can't just wait around and hope the S410 or similar goes on clearance somewhere for $160.)

Now, I don't want to hear "Kodaks suck, I have a Canon, go with the Canon." Also, this is the top consumer-end model Kodak has, or was when it was released, so that puts it on a different plane. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Seriously, Kodak doesn't do anything better than Canon except for the dock stuff.

Kodak, #1 brand with women
Canon, #1 brand with MEN

I hate Kodak, I used my mom's, I can't take a good picture with it

Exactly what I'm hoping to avoid. :disgust: EDIT: every response so far...

All the DC review sites put these cameras of roughly equal quality. I'd just need help deciding which better meets my needs.

Well, it's the truth. I don't think that anyone takes Kodak seriously for P&S cameras except for people that don't give a crap other than to just have something that's simple to use and throw on a dock (as if hooking a USB cable to a camera is hard)

And what do you mean by more image quality? More megapixels? MP doesn't equal quality

i'm in a similar situation, and I saw the S410 deal, but I'd rather get a SD200 ($220 online after tax + shipping). Doesn't come with the case, but there's a nice case for $4 at target

$200 is stretching it a little bit for me already... wish I could go $300+

Check out the forums and do a side by side comparison. I think you'll find that Kodak owners are at least as happy with their purchase as the Canon owners. Look at real-world, non-pro photos if you want to see what results you're likely to get.

If you're interested in making your own decision, that is.

Yeah, I've exhausted the website.

Since I don't think 6+ megapixals is necessary, I'm trying to decide between the S410 and SD200. Thanks for making it harder for me, Popper! ;)

In terms of 2 years ago, my store at Best Buy had more Kodaks come back for repair than any other brand. Actually, HP was pretty close. But that was 2 years ago.

In general, Kodaks have very human-pleasing 'warm' colours. They're also arguably easier to use than their Canon competitor models. However, if you simply leave it on AUTO mode, one camera is as easy to use as the other. The most you'd do is toggle the flash on/off and macro mode on/off.

Canons are a rather reliable brand, and they're not popular without reason. Good optics, good post-processing of pictures. I'd be tempted to look at a different model than the S410 that's getting a little long in the tooth though. Just some thoughts. I'll leave you with some samples for the Canon S410.

I think I'm going to go with the SD200, although I'm open to arguments otherwise (or in support). Thanks.

How about a side-by-side comparison of the S410 vs SD200

interesting how the SD200 is smaller yet they label the S410 as ultra compact and SD200 as just compact.
