Quick! Is it SAFE to blow the L12 bridge on 2500+ w/ 9V battery?

I hope to do it before 2am

(got work tomorrow)

Im pissed off and upset with my Barton but dont wanna take a razor blade to it (i once sliced up a Palomino that way)
The friggin thing is just stuck at 185fsb!!!

Is the L12 bridge connected to the core or straight to the pins? I wont FVCK the core up, will I?

ahhhhhh hurry :)

I'd rather take a razor to a processor than a 9V battery.
Where exactly did you get this idea?
Now true, the L12 bridge may conduct the power initially, but when/if it blows out, the electricity will immediately seek an alternate route - through the processor's guts. If it finds a way, you will discover that a processor designed for less than 2 volts does not enjoy exposure to 9V.

ive seen bridges blown useing that method......but wouldnt suggest it.
what are you trying to do exactly make the chip think its a 133 part and not a 166 part ?
personally id just use an x-acto knife and make a few passes try it if it dont work make one more pass etc etc till you get it right.

q]

you are correct sir.

my Barton 2500+ wont exceed 185fsb whereas with the same mobo and RAM my 1800+ TbredA was at 217.

Ive now got an exacto knife sitting in front of me but im nervous. I was actually trying to lessen the physical damage the chip would have to sustain. Ive played with a dead Palo and the 9v trick, barely noticeable.

play it 'safe' and use the xacto knife, less chance of uncontrollable things happening

will it work if rather than running the blade back and forth, i sort of PRESS the tip down in between the 2 pins?

Dont do it without using a Multimeter to check the circuit. I wrote this for GoBadgrs recently:

- Get a knife like a 'Stanley knife', this is a British tool, but you guys talk of 'Exacto' knives which I believe are the same.

- Set your multimeter to continuity mode, where it beeps when you touch the tips together. Borrow one if you don't have one, it makes the job 100% rather than hit or miss.

- Check the current unmolested bridge. The bridges have small pips showing and you need to touch each of these to check the circuit. The multimeter will beep, the circuit is made and so the bridge is uncut.

- VERY gently make a score line across the bridge you want to cut.

- Make gentle but certain strokes along the score line, checking with the multimeter after each one until it doesn't beep. The bridge is now cut.
