Quick - how do I resolve this ebay problem?

A buyer recently purchased an item for almost $500 from me, but going against my auction terms he payed from an unconfirmed address through paypal. I refused to ship him the item and he got mad. Now I can refund his money but I'm out $15 for the ebay costs...what should I do? If I paypal him everything but $15 then I lose $15 in the paypal side of the transaction.

please advise

give him all his money back, its your fault for not specifying that you would only accept certified paypal.

now, if you did say that, then mention so when you give him his money minus $15...

I did specify that, but if I subtract the $15 from the paypal to cover the ebay costs, then I can't use the paypal "refund" option and I'm out another $15 that paypal charged

if you refund using the "refund" option they will not charge you anything it will be a even deal

no, I will still get nailed on the ebay auction closing cost fo $13.65
File with ebay that the transaction didnt go through and they will credit your account for the closing costs, though you will be out the listing fee's

thanks, what an inconvenience though, it's going to take 30 days to get the money back

Yep. Idiot buyers suck. Thankfully, I've never had any serious problems.

Wait though, whats the big deal with an unconfirmed address? As long as the payment type was instant, you have your money.

the problem is that if the buyer used someone else's credit card, when the victim withdraws funds then I get the funds withdrawn from my account through paypal and I'm out $500. Too much of a risk

That only applies if the payment was with CC, AFAIK. If it was an instant payment, you have nothing to worry about. You've already gotten the money.

send him back his paypal, but instead of the refund option, just send it minus $30, or however much will cover you for both the ebay and paypal fees.

are you sure that instant payments can't be withdrawn?

I don't think so. How would they? It was a transfer directly from their bank account, there are no methods to reverse the transaction. I started a similar thread, here.
