My E: drive is dying so I bought a new one, but I want to transfer all the files from my E: (120gb WD) to the new drive (200gb maxtor). I have 4 drives installed right now..

SATA 120gb Maxtor
SATA 80gb Maxtor (os)
IDE 120gb WD
IDE 200gb Maxtor (new)

The new drive isnt showing up in My Computer, but does in the Device Manager.

I could use some help.

Thanks

Nees to be Partitioned and Formatted.

XP Pro?

Right click on My computer, Manage

On Right hand Panel click Storage, then Disk Management
Right click on the New Drive, New Partition, blah blah pretty self eveident from here, you can then Format the new partition from this Panel also.

Right Click on My Computer> Click Manage > Click on Disk Management > Select your E Drive, Right Click on it and Partition and Format it using Basic Partition and using the automatic or default settings.

Option #2 is to download and Purchase Software from Ontrack just for this purpose and it will make an exact boot copy to your new HDD. Then all you have to do is remove the old one and change the Drive Letter From e to c Using the Disk Management Utility as described above (minus the partition part).

I use Seagate or WD. I have al WD drives right now (7 of them) and no problems at all. I also sell exclusively WD drives at my store and have had only a few come back with problems. Used to sell Samsungs and they never had problems either. I constantly see comptuers with maxtors coming in with them dead.

A friend of mine was chatting with me on MSN tonight, then he said "OMG my d: drive is gone!"

I told him, "That will teach you for buying a Maxtor"

He said "how did you know?..."

true story

That said I have a 20GB 7200rpm Maxtor that is still kicking, though the bearings are so loud the neighbors call me when I turn it on.
