Quick help needed... Will my 690G mobo run this processor?

...and need to be sure first. Its a fairly new arrival at Newegg. Its the 2.3Ghz Quad core Black Edition 95W and I have the Asus M2A-VM 690G mother board. Some else in the reviews section also has a 690G board (Gigabyte version) and is reporting no problems. Would it damage the processor to try it? Or would I just get a startup error. I checked the BIOS update page for my mobo but all it has in regards to processor updates is "Support New CPU's". I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

According to this the answer is yes, the board will support that CPU.
