Well, my PSU bit the dust yesterday... kinda
The PSU turns on and powers everything, but the 2 fans won't turn on and spin
I opened the PSU and replaced the fans but still no luck. Not sure how to fix it, but I don't have the time to mess with it. It my media server and I must be able to record my TV shows and watch my Battlestar Galacatic :D

Here are the specs:

Lian Li PC6070
P4 3.0Ghz Northwood
Abit IC7Max3 mobo
(2) 512MB Crucial Ram
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum with bay
6800 XFX "Vanilla" Vidcard w/Artic Cooling
Fusion5 HDTV Capture Card
(1) 300GB HD SATA
(2) 250GB HD SATA
(2) 160GB HD SATA
(2) 160GB HD ATA/EIDE
Benq 1620 DVD/RW
(1) 120MM Exhaust Fan
(2) 80MM Intake Fans

Maybe you missed the 26A single rail... or the Seasonic having 33A of 12v, or the OP having seven hard drives, but either way: OP don't listen to this guy.

Done... just picked up the Seasonic 600W :D
A lil pricey, but all those HD's need the juice.
I'm gonna try and sell off the (4) 160GB's and swap em out for (2) 300GB HD's instead. That'll put me at (5) Hard Drives instead.

I really doubt the OP would have any problems with that OCZ PSU (26A of +12V will run a lot of hard drives), but the Seasonic S12s are very, very nice and extremely quiet and efficient (not that a system with seven hard drives will ever be very quiet).

The 600W may be a bit much; the 480W or 500W models would be fine. The S12-600 actually has 36A on the +12V (18A each on two rails). That's 432W just on the +12V rails; his entire system will use far less than that. Even the S12-430 (29A on two +12V rails) would be fine, although you might be pushing it if you wanted to do something goofy like install two 7800GTXs in there.

maybe i missed the fact the OP wanted to spend $150 bucks on a freaking power supply... not all of us have money comming out our @$$es :disgust:

Edit: you also posted that 1 second before i did, if you didn?t notice. so its not like i had looked at your recommendation.

Its definetly the PSU...
I booted up into windows just fine, however the PSU's fans will not spin up. So, the PSU is gonna overheat extremely quick
BTW, my crapped out PSU is an Antec Tru Control 550

Hmmm.. maybe I could have saved some money :(
Perhaps should have gotten the Seasonic 500W PSU instead

I thought with 7 hard drives I would need a 550-600W PSU

Sorry, my bad and a bit of pronoun trouble on my part. The way I read it to begin with was nothing powered up... of course, you didn't write it that way, so yes, get a new power supply by all means yes!

Hard drives use in the neighborhood of 10-20W during bootup, and maybe 10-15W while running. At most. Newer ones are more like 7-10W under load. Most people VASTLY overestimate their power needs.

Hmm...

Here's some black and white on various consumer level drives.

The 600W may be a bit much; the 480W or 500W models would be fine. The S12-600 actually has 36A on the +12V (18A each on two rails). Yeah, it's a bit overkill, but the S12-500 would have only saved him ~$25. I know if I were him, my time is more valuable than risk going through this again.

Man, those Seagates suck a lot of power. But those 20-25W draws are only for a few seconds during spinup. Even the worst drive there is using less than 15W once it's online.

It's $25 more than the 500W, but $50-60 more than the 430W (which would be fine for this system; you don't think 29A/350W on the +12V rail would be enough?). I mean, you can't go wrong with the 600W, but I have seen little to suggest that buying a massively over-spec PSU actually does much for you other than empty your wallet faster. :p
