Help me with this lens. The baby broke mine and I need to find a replacement ASAP because family will be most displeased not to see pictures of his first Christmas. You guys are good, please help this mom who doesn't have a lot of time to research.
 
Well hopefully it's decent. I ordered it. I'm replacing the kit lens, so I don't need something amazing, just a good all-around lens that not a million dollars.

It seems something happened to the motor in the kit lens. Manual focus on the kit lens that comes with the Rebel xsi is crappy.
 
Second the 50mm f/1.8. Great little lens for CHEAP.

or pick up a cheap 18-55mm kit lens on craigslist.

If you're looking for a more permanent solution, how about a 18-135mm Canon lens?
 
Don't get the 50mm

With kids you're going to want to be able to zoom on a snap. Not have to move towards the subject using your feet. Though with the price of the 50mm 1.8 it should be added to any photographer's arsenal
