Quick help about playing divx

SnoopCat

Senior member
im using winXP

ive installed divx 3.11 codec

i have been able to now play about 90% of my divx files

media player tries to download the codec for the other 10% but it fails....

anyone know what i need to install in order to make it run?

i remember when i had win2000, i installed these 3 files... mpeg4fix, MPG4C32.DLL, msvcp60.dll
and it was able to play all 100% of my divx files. These files are not compatible with winxp... i dunno where i got them so itwould be helpful if anyone knows of a place where i can get them to work for winXP

thaks

There are many variables. It might be that the creator used some odd-ball codec that you don't happen to have.

I've found that some avi's which Windows Media Player cannot play, play successfully in Real Player.

I would suggest installing a grab bag of codecs, and install a grab bag of players, and then try to play the file in each player.

There is also the svcd format which is typically troublesome, and requires a special player such as WinDVD or that freeware player some dude in china made (called svth player, or something like that).

Better alternative for SVCD (MPEG2), if you don't have DVD player software, is to get the Elecard MPEG2 Player.

First download the new Divx player/codec and you may try to download the SMR or NAVI codec. Just do a search on google for it and you should find it.
