i tried my best to get as much of the compound that came with it as i could, using a knife and wet towel(to get remainder of stuff)

however, i can still see sum film of the compound(cant get it off).....is it ok to put artic silver now or do i have to take it all 100% off?

Use a towel or piece of cloth and some rubbing alcohol. Wipe \ rub it really good and it should come off. Is this a new HS or are you trying to clean up the baked on goop from a used HS?

texun, volcano 6 Cu comes with a thermal pad, the Cu+ (with noisier 7000rpm fan)
comes totally nude! My personal preference too! ;)

My Volcano 6cu+ came with a layer of thermal paste. There was still a trace I couldn't get off no matter how hard I tried. It still worked OK regardless.

Use a solvent based cleanser the alcohlol. Of course it would be a good time to lap the HS with very fine sandpaper.:D

You're right. I used one for a while but didn't remember that it had a bare bottom. Also... I didn't see the reason for the round swirl marks on the copper insert so I lapped it. Worked out okay and dropped my temps by about 1-2C. Decided later to try the V7 which has been quieter and better in my system.
