If you absolutely need a PCI card, then I guess. Does your HTPC have a PCIe or AGP slot?

nope, its an older socket 468 P4 2.8 ghz 1gb ram 250gb hdd

this card will not do for simply hooking it up to my hdtv?

It'll work but every time I see an FX5200 I kinda throw up in my mouth a little.

Why not get something better like a GeForce 6200 or something?

If you're hooking it up to an HDTV, I'd think you'd want PureVideo features.

I used a 5200 for the longest time, and I had no problem playing back ATSC 1080i/720p streams. Its decent enough.
