Quick hardware question

Nik, feel free to inform me of that, and to give me a link to where i should have posted it 😛

200gb drive is only showing as 31.4gb in an older motherboard...is it possible the jumper is screwed that limits the drive size, or is it just that the old chipset can't recognize it properly?

it recognizes the 60 gb properly...so i can't see why it would limit the 200 to only 31.4...makes me think the space limiter jumper is messed up somehow...dunno

update bios if it is onboard EIDE controller and/or add a PCI EIDE controller with a modern bios

hmm...this mobo came out of a gateway, i have no clue how to find out what bios i need 🙁

maybe i can run sisoft sandra on it and get the infomation i need?

or try to pause the splash screen at boot and see if their are any code number onscreen

You could run that or Everest. Also, it might be related to what serice pack for Win2k you have installed. Oh....Is the filesystem FAT32 or NTFS?

well...i'm remoting into this pc with pc anywhere...it doesn't have a monitor or keyboard attached...it's my fileserver

so i can't do that...damn, i guess i'm gonna hafta actually hook it up to figure it out 🙁

If you need a fileserver you'd probably be better off just hooking the hdd to a router than messing with flashing the bios,etc. on an old gateway.

good thinking...i didn't think to check if this drive is ntfs or fat, i just got it from a friend...he gave it to me as a b-day present...he doesn't know a whole lot about comps, so he may have done that

ok i just deleted the partition and recreated an extended partition...i created a logical drive in the new partition and now i have 127.99gb there w00t

i don't think this mobo is gonna recognize any more than that...maybe since the partition was 200gb was why windows was having trouble with it

unless anyone else has any ideas to get the other 70 gigs of my space 😀

If you look on the motherboard you will probably find the informetion relating to make, model, revision, and serial number.
