Sorry if it has already been asked before, but here it is: If I buy Half-Life 2 (cheapest version) through Steam, will I be able to download Day of Defeat Souce, and the other HL2 mods when they come out? When I look at the 3 options, the cheapest one only has Counter-strike Source. Shouldn't the HL2 key work for all of the mods?

...if you buy the bronze package, you get only HL2 and CS:Source. if u buy silver, u get HL2, CS:Source, DoD:Source, and valve's back catalog (meaning CS, CZ, etc...).

I had the same question, that if I get the normal HL2 version will I be able get the DOD source later?
I still don't know, I don't want to pay $79.99 CDN for the silver pack.

i don't know, but this sure is a lame way to get money... I figure I'd get the vanilla and then just get *new* mods for free when they get released....

But valve does have the knack for repeatedly charging for the same game over and over again
;)

As far as I know you will be able to obtain any Half life 2 mods with the cheapest steam version of the game. However, Day of Defeat is a Half Life 1 mod and is now property of Valve, so if you want it you have to pay for it. You will not be able to download it for free.

OK, thanks. That was the answer I was looking for.

You are correct DOD is a Half Life 1 Mod

DOD:Source is not

Activision holds the publishing rights to DOD. Thus why you will not see it in any VUG HL2 Retail package.

I highly doubt you will be able to obtain any of the mods you desire with cheapest steam version of the game. I do not think anyone knows any certain information about the matter

No, I think it's pretty clear. Just look at the different HL2 packages. If you want HL:S or DoD:S, buy Silver or Gold. Bronze won't cut it. Beyond that, it's certainly safe to say that any mods released by the community will be free to download no matter which package you buy.

My only question is: If you don't buy on Steam, do you still get DoD:S? Sadly, it isn't included in the description of the HL2 Collector's Edition, so my guess is "no." If that's the case, then I'll certainly buy through Steam.
