Quick grammar question

which is correct "one-and-a-half hours" or "one and a half hours"?

While I'm not an expert, I think I would cast my lot with option #1.

Make it easy on yourself by either saying:

"1.5 hours" or "1 hour, 30 minutes"

I would write 1.5 hours if it wasn't on a scholarship application. This is as formal as formal writing gets.

i dont believe it should be hyphenated, so option #2

im a certified english teacher, but i dont have a grammar book around to double check. i dont see a reason why it should be hyphenated though.

I'd go for number 2 myself. Don't see why it should be number 1.

Just say 90 minutes, or whatever else is equivalent.

If you were describing something you would use hyphens. For example, if your English class were a three-hour course it would look like this. If you studied for a test for three hours it would look like this.
