Quick FTP Question

I'm using SimpleViewer and SimpleViewer admin for hosting my photos. Unfortunately, the program has a bug -- any non-ascii character entered in a photo caption messes up the xml and crashes the whole thing.

I want to manually change the xml file, but it is located in a directory that was created by the gallery program. In FlashFXP, the ownership for the folder i'm trying to mess around in is different from the folders I myself put on there.

So my question is -- How do I go about deleting a file that was not technically updated by me? I tried chmod, but it didn't work as it won't let me change anything about the file or folder.

(This is Unix stuff isn't it?)
