Quick fan cable question

I just got 4 Panaflow L1As today and they only have two wires with bare ends. No jack or any sort of connector at all. I only have 4-pin connectors left on my power supply, so I am guessing I'm going to have to head over to CompUSA or Fry's and buy some sort of 2-to-4 pin power converter where I can physically insert the wires yes? Man this is such a pain...

One more quick question. My motherboard has a 3 pin "PWRFAN1 (Northbridge fan)" connector on it. It labels the pins as GND, +12V, and NC. My PSU comes with a small 3 pin wire called the Fan Monitor Connector, with pin names COM, Fan Voltage, and Fan Monitor. Am I supposed to connect these two, or is the PWRFAN1 supposed to be for one of my case fans? Thanks all

As long as your motherboard does not need a RPM sensing fan to boot you can plug the PSU Fan monitor in it. You can actually plug it into any mobo header you wish. For the Panaflos, you can either buy tails which plug into the hub of the fan where the bare wires currently are, buy 3 pin fan connectors, or solder the fan wires into a 3 pin or 4 pin connector. I dont know if Frys or CompUSA sells tails or fan connectors or not.

I don't think Compusa or FRY's sell tails for your Panaflo... some select FRY's do have the 3 pin connectors if you want to do it yourself... very rarely see them though. You can order it at directron but they cost a wee bit too much. I got mine off the FS/FT forums... someone was selling it since they weren't going to use it anyway. :D

What if I take all 8 leads from the four fans and put a rubber band around them and one 4pin PSU connector and put them all in the same jack? I don't have a soldering gun, and I'm really sick of shelling out like $3 for itty bitty connectors and such. Could I do that so that the wires touch the casing inside the 4 pin connector, or am I just asking for trouble? :D

Hahaha... riiiight. Well FRY's does sell male molex kits... i belive one pack has two male molex adapters... and two female molex all pins required are included. You'll need two of those so i'm guessing $6 aint so bad... :D better than shorting out your mobo with your little daredevil act. :)

Thanks for the link boyRacer. Is there any other cheaper alternative out there? I mean, if I buy those cables these 4 fans are going to end up costing me over $50... I've been searching and I haven't been able to come up with much. Damnit.

Probably going to call around and see if I can pick it up locally though, I'm tired of pacing around on lookout for the FedEx guy :D

Good luck... :) i order from these guys too... what i didn't like was shipping being more expensive than the little wires i was buying as well.

Heatsinkfactory.com has the Panaflo 3-pin tails for 50¢ each. Shipping is around $6 though but you're still looking at only around $8 for four of them. It's probably are cheap as you're going to be able to find them. They also have the 4 pin tails for 50¢.

Thanks Ralf, I'll probably get them there then. I just called Fry's and they said they didn't carry them. What a pain in the ass. Why can't the panaflo's come with a molex connector like EVERY OTHER FAN?

I don't think they were made for personal use in computers.
