Quick Exchange question

On the advice of a collegue, I've named our AD domain something like "bob.bobsmachines.com", when our website is actually "bobsmachines.com".

I now want to put in an exchange server, but all the internal addresses are bob@bob.bobsmachines.com, with everyone using the ISP's server at the moment.

I'd google for the answer, but I don't know what the terms would be.

Thanks

I'm not connected to my Exchange server at the moment, but if you modify the Recipient policy in the ESM, you should be able to change the default address from bobs.bobs.com to bobs.com.

Someone should be able to confirm this for me really quick!

You can set up Exchange to send and receive external email using any domain name you want. It's done using the Recipient Polcies and the individual user email addresses. You have to pick one domain address as the default domain for sending email for each user.

Search UseNet for "exchange multiple domains" for details.
Exchange has a KB article, also.MS has a Knowledgebase article, also.

I'm not sure that naming your domain "bobs.bobsmachines.com" was a great idea, but you SHOULD name it something other than your Internet Domain name. Something like bobsmachines.local or bobsmachines.lan is pretty common. It really makes NO difference what you name your domain, but naming it with the EXACT name of your Internet domain is certainly a big mistake, as your friend noted.
