Both of these are pretty low end, but how would you rank the speed:
32MB ATI® Rage? Ultra or 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4? MX

I did a search of several review sites and couldn't find the ATI Rage Ultra. This is for a new computer and will be temporary until cards with GeForce4 TI 4400 speed are under $100.

No comparision. Rage Ultra has no T&L and is really an ancient card that the GF4MX (even the "low-end" 420) will smash.

Definitely, unless you really need the better TV-Out implementation of the Rage 128 then even the weakest GF4 MX420 is considerably more powerful then the Rage 128/128 Pro. No competition at all.

Thanks. I'm getting a new computer for my wife as I posted here. I was told by my wife that the card prices were too high and she will wait until later to get one. This brings the 2.4 GHz 533 MHz P4 system price to about $640. Either way it will be better than her 5 year old integrated graphics.

If you are looking for a "bang for the buck" video card, I can personally vouch for the original Visiontek Geforce 3 available from sybercom for just $92 plus shipping. It would absolutely kill either of the cards you mentioned. They offer fast service and reasonable shipping cost, too. I really am happy with mine.:D

He's after stuff that DELL offers though.
Don't worry - the MX-420 is fine, and more than enough for anything your wife will ever throw at it. You might be surprised to find yourself liking it too. :)
Pity they don't move it up to an MX-440 though.... :frown:
