QUICK: ERROR installing Windows

neonerd is working on a computer right now at someone's home, no other computers there

He has one hard drive to work with.

He needs to install XP but gets "Error Loading Operating System."

He's tried formatting and then doing repair, install, etc. none work. He doesn't have floppies for the HD either for any other type of format

Check the ide cables. Maybe switch the cd-rom cables with the hard drive cables. Also what are the system specs and why did it need to be formatted?

maybe the hd is borked, he should try it in another system

and tell him to charge eleventy billion dollars for this job since he had to get help from OT

make sure his cdrom is master, as stated use fdisk to set an active partition

from the way it sounds its trying to load off the hard drive before the cdrom, and the hard drives OS is corrupt

agreed

fix it yet?

he should be able to use fdisk if he is not using an ntfs file system.. But all of my fdisk executables are able to read ntfs partitions, depends on the version.. Some versions of fdisk couldnt read multiple drives at once
