Quick... er.. noob question.

It's been awhile since I built a rig or worked on a computer. This is honestly something I've never tried......

Can I install XP from any XP full install CD? All that matters is the key, correct? The key isn't tied to the CD... correct?

Second question: Will I have trouble installing XP from a launch CD onto SATA drives? I remember there being some sort of 130-160Gb issue back in the day.

I might just skip the $100 on buying Vista if I can use my old CD. I've got 3 keys, and one launch CD. Lol.

Correct

Fast... Thank you very much!

There isn't a one to one relationship between key and CD but... You can't use a Retail key with an OEM version of XP and vice versa.

For you 2nd question: There was a drive size/LBA issue for RTM XP. It was corrected in SP1. Use slipstreamed media if possible otherwise you may need to resize overly large partitions after you've installed a service pack.

SATA drives will typically detect using inbox drivers (basically in IDE mode). If not just have a floppy handy with the SATA driver and hit F6 during the start of text mode setup to provide it.
